2020 Takeaway
A moment’s insight is sometimes worth a life’s experience. I write this curled on the floor, listening to the legally clueless podcast, isn’t that what we all are, clueless and hopefully legally.
Earlier on in March, clouds of uncertainty hovered over everyone’s head. The future was bleak, the next minute grimmer than the former. Fast forward to December and somehow normalcy has crept its way back. Not the ordinary normal, but a new norm but what do we say, was 2020 not level off Jumanji? Most probably.
So let’s talk about the year that has been.
January and February were normal months, at least in this country south of the Sahara. The sun rose by 7.am and set by 7.pm. January was mercilessly haunting the minds of many. February came, and some realized that their boyfriends were another’s girlfriend. Everything was going as per the script.
Then came March and an extra was added to the production. A silent background cast catapulted the script haywire and everything changed. From then henceforth, the future hung on a string and the course of humanity changed irreversibly.
Over time, the dust of apprehension has settled and left an open field to learn and grow. If you have learned nothing from what 2020 offered, maybe, just maybe, you are the reason the universe is planning a rerun-Covid 20.
2020 is slowly slipping into history, but before it does, here are my 5 2020 take away lessons.
1. Do you, unapologetically!
If there is a thing I have learned this year is that, that which you wish to do, do it. Life is short, You only live once(YOLO), Tomorrow is not promised, and what other thing you say to yourself better become your mantra. Follow your passion and find happiness before it does you. However, do not throw all caution to the wind, we are living in strange times.
2. Get creative
This year, creativity has been the trail on which normalcy has trended on from the claws of the pandemic. Companies had to be creative to survive the economic turbulence, everything moved to the net and Tik tok became a massive wave. Being in quarantine demanded reinventing and unearthing old hobbies to keep ourselves entertained. Believe, me you need to be creative to entertain yourself leave alone others.
3. Selfcare is a priority
I don’t know what you have heard about self-care routines but self-care isn’t a privilege and more so isn’t limited to the skin. It’s doing that thing that is good for your body, mind and soul. Keep in mind do you, unapologetically. If you need to mask you hair or beard, please do. Life is short.
4. Leave some space for disappointment
The biggest mood of the year for me has been surprised but not disappointed. The continuity of events is not promised, especially at this time. Here is my little 2020 takeaway, go with the flow but leave a huge space for disappointment. We don’t want broken hearts, do we?
5. Be prepared
Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. You don’t want to find yourself legally clueless in the next level of Jumanji on the planet, do you?
Based on what wild animal someone is having for dinner tonight, the course might take a different direction. The alleged alarming level of cannibalism cost the globe a whole year. Maybe a vegan diet would suffice. What do you think?
