Brain Ache
A brain surgery, when you are awake and conscious.
Would you sign up for it?
Did you know your brain feels nothing?
Allow me to tell you more.
The brain is the largest organ hosted in the head. It is protected by several layers including meninges. It is the central processing unit of the body and as you could imagine, it is protected at all costs.
The brain continues to some part of the neck and is continuous with your spinal cord up to the sacrum(the tail end).
Therefore, technically speaking, if your brain was to ache, then you would have pain radiating from your head down to your back. My friend, you would be writhing in pain.
The brain is the boss the big man. It receives information from all over the body, interprets it then gives commands based on its interpretation. The brain is the organ that controls your existence; eating, walking, sleeping, breathing.
Back to headaches; a headache is a painful sensation on any part of the head commonly the forehead. In high severity, it feels like the devil is hammering your head with a tuning fork and most probably he is.
Between the brain and the skin on the head, is a bunch of membrane and blood vessels. On irritation, they send signals to the brain underneath which are then interpreted as pain.
“Yoh, big man, we are not okay!”
“What’s up?”
“This human is messing us up, do something kiongos”
“I got you my Gs!”
And boom you get a headache.
Common causes of headaches include; lack of sleep, stress, dehydration, noise, tight hardware and eye strain just to mention a few. Anything that is going to agitate your head or any part of your head is most probably going to cause a headache.
Nevertheless, it is important to note that a headache can be a manifestation of a problem that lies elsewhere in the body for example an infection.
You must be wondering then, how do you manage a headache?
First of all, try and identify the trigger. If it’s noise, move to a quiet place or reduce the volume. If your are dehydrated, take water. If the pain does not subside, then you can take painkillers.
And as the adage goes If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.
The role of the brain is merely interpretive of the irritation as pain. On its own, it cannot sense pain because it is the master of pain.
Because of this unique property, the brain can be operated on without anaesthesia. However, to bypass the bone and overlying tissues which are pain-sensitive anaesthesia is administered.
If anyone thinks they can mess up with your brain, let them know.
Your brain is feelings insensitive.
Your brain feels nothing!!
