Drink December

It’sDecember 2020. How everyone must have waited for the last month of 2020. This year has been long! It’s barely 20th but the Christmas feel is suffocating already. However, your girl is not feeling Christmas because; she is broke and two because she knows she is broke.
On Wednesday night, my friend and I decided to carry out an expensive experiment. I call it expensive because it left such a huge dent in my wallet. Was the experience worth it? Absolutely!

My friend and I went on a mission to spend some money. On our list was meeting a sommelier in some restaurant. I know you want to google who a sommelier is but let me save you the hustle. A sommelier is a wine expert. We had never met this sommelier in person before so we were looking forward to the experience, to say the least.

After half an hour of so much science concerning the fermenting of grapes, we made our order, a particular bottle of dry white wine. Did you know there are more than 100,000 brands of wine in the world? I bet you didn’t.
I might have missed the part where he mentioned dry is more bitter, because bitter it was. A few glasses later, of different brands and types, my tongue is a bit confused on which taste was from which bottle. How do tasters do it? A hack or two would help improve my taste in life.
I know you’ll go out with your friends for drinks, or maybe you already have, or maybe not. Here are a few tips to keep you safe on your date with a sommelier, bartender or mixologist.

  1. Stick to the size of your wallet
It is embarrassing when you order for drinks only to realize your mpesa balance can not sustain it. If you want to go big, save for the date, or secure a treat.
  2. Eat before drinking alcohol
Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream through the intestines. On an empty stomach, the rate of absorption will be higher and so will be the drunken effect.
  3. Keep count of how much you drink
This is the only way you’ll know when you have had too much. If you’ve had enough for the night, take a break. Believe me, dealing with a friend who has blacked out is such an experience.
  4. Don’t drink and drive
Yes, I’ll say it again, after its been said by everyone. As cliche as this may sound, get a driver or spare some Uber cash. This holiday wants you up and kicking, not on a hospital bed or worse in a grave.
  5. Don’t get drunk
Nobody loves their drink version so drink and don’t get drunk. That simple!
Lastly, 2020 has been a long year. Make the best of this last month. Have fun! Responsibly. Do you know how alcohol makes you drunk? Find out here

    1. Hello,
Alcohol irritates the stomach lining and this may cause nausea and vomiting. Alcohol also stimulates the stomach to produce excess acid which may cause nausea.
